High Sec moves slowly towards the spotlight!

Last year I started running for the CSM relatively early. Part of My Campaign was about the awful New Player Experience. Somewhere in the middle of My Campaign, CCP announced the new "Achievement" system. The fact that the NPE was changed right out from under me... well it made the rest of the time interesting and took away about 25% of the things that I wanted to rant and rave about!

Now new players get to start with more SP... I dodged a bullet there by waiting on this years CSM campaign.

CSM Sugar Kyle has been hosting discussions about High Sec. I am reading them with interest!

What I have to say about things is going to have to wait for a later post... I'm also too busy reading stuff at the moment!

CSM Campaign Season - Earlier Than Ever!

A couple of bloggers drew my attention to the fact that the campaign season for CSM XI is starting on the Eve Online forums. Already.

Last year I started my CSM X Campaign on 20th November. I was one of the first ones to post, and I did it after a lot of thought, and checking out how much time I would (theoretically) have available in the coming year. I was actually quite hesitant to post so soon because I was worried that I might burn out on the campaign before the real heavy election season started. Of course, I was also worried that when given enough time, I would manage to completely put my foot in my mouth and ruin everything.

In the end, I decided to make an early start, because no one knew me in game. I felt I would need that time to make an impression, so that people would know who I am and what I was standing for.

End of September / Beginning of October is for me, much too early! I am planning to run on a high sec platform again, but before I officially commit on the forums, I have to be sure (inasmuch as that can be forseen) that I have enough time to do the job.

Harbinger Down

So one of the things I have been trying to do a bit of this year, is to get a little experience (scratch the very, very surface) of things other than being a plain old Carebear.

This way I feel more justified in saying that I am a Carebear. And I am.

Anyway, I moved out to Provi to experience the thrills there. The people so far have been very nice, very friendly. I even made up a corporation office there to facilitate things!

And today I lost a ship, and an MTU.

but not my pod!

I learned some things and am wiser for the experience!

This is, more or less, what happened:

Having taken to trying mining in null sec, we wanted to bring our Orca out, to get some fleet boosts. I scouted the pipe from the border of high sec to the base. At the gate in JEIV-E there were a group of rats sitting there. Having learned that null sec rats sometimes scramble and web (and other nasty things) I decided to remove them from the way.

Once the Orca was safely underway, I went and got in my trusty Harbinger, and flew out to engage the rats in the ultimate battle of wits and courage. There were four of them.

Being lazy as I sometimes am, I threw out the MTU to drag all the wrecks together. The MTU sucks all the loot out of the wrecks and they are all nicely together within the range of salvaging equipment. Whilst I was busy salvaging, a Caracal warped in and landed about 60 km away - by the Stargate. Whilst the fight with the rats was going on, several people had flown past, and at first - this being NRDS territory - I did not think much of it... until he started locking me.

So I tried running. Before I could get into warp, he had closed in and scrammed me. Then his friend in the Stratios came. They overcame my tank, and my ship popped. I warped my pod away, and vowed to check the status of my fellow pilots in local - next time.

The Orca made it safely to the destination!

Player Corporations

For those that ever bothered to read my CSMX campaign thread... well they know where I stand on this issue.

After all the fuss that went up last year, CCP got around to making AWOXing optional for corporations. This means that... if an AWOX takes place it is not only unfortunate, but really the fault of the corporation getting AWOXd.

However this single change to the corporation system has changed nothing with regards to the necessity of making it possible to have a player "corporation" that is purely social. (see my campaign thread...). The fact is, that forcing players to be "social" increases player retention .... there was even CCP statistics about this.

Just theoretically limiting the possibility of an AWOX does not nearly go far enough in covering all the "sociability" options that should be available for players otherwise doomed to be roaming in NPC corporations.

The ability to make a group identity, whilst not having any effect whatsoever on gameplay, will still cover an important niche that is otherwise left wide open. This will be a help for all those players that would totally do this.... without taking anything away from the more hardcore corporations, that still require player contributions in order to pretend to be meaningfull.....

try it and see!

CSMX

The Nosy Gamer posted something, a summary of something that a lot of us already have been following:

http://nosygamer.blogspot.de/2015/08/csm-x-gorga-mess.html

I actually do not want to talk about this.
But there are enough people out there that do not understand the STV that I feel the need to write something.

Having one CSM member claim that he is releasing a statement in the name of the entire (active) CSM is not very nice... when it is not true.

Sugar Kyle disputed that she was part of the "UNANIMOUS". http://www.lowseclifestyle.com/2015/08/csmx-post-21.html

Apparently CSM Jayne tried to backtrack on the issue of speaking for all of the CSM without a mandate to do so... and failed. The Nosy Gamer published a convincing review of the situation, and I would recommend that everyone (that is interested in the CSM and EVE politics) read it.

Sounds like a fun year!

CONCORD

So I have been having too much fun playing EVE to spend time writing atm.

My Corpsmate (not my alt... despite what people might think) managed finally to get himself ganked by the New Order... not as easy as one might suspect!

Anyway:

Concord really sucks.
I think the mechanics could really use a beef-up in order to:

1) Make sense.

I think that having a CONCORD patrol sitting next to you in an asteroid belt whilst you get ganked is a bit... strange. I mean they are right there!

Similarly, having CONCORD take exactly the same amount of time to warp to a belt... and save a life is not so realistic! (OMG - talking about realism in a game about blowing up spaceships).

Having CONCORD being able to be manipulated by everything and everyone like a gullible child is also not conducive to taking them seriously.

2) Make things more fun.

I mean, being able to exactly predict and calculate everything... is not so exciting (IMHO).

I haven't really run any numbers on this... not like (for example): http://i.imgur.com/IF2FtQb.png
But my gut feeling is.... bring a random factor to the fight!

I can envisage a world where CONCORD response is random, with a range based upon the SEC of the system. CONCORD does not then sit (like police in a donut shop) where they spawn, but once the criminals have been punished... the CONCORD squads fly off in search of new targets.

If the random response time has an average that is not significantly different from the current numbers... then *on average* the ganker-types would not be disadvantaged. This would remove the need for them to "pre spawn" concord, and to "pull" concord when they have done their dirty deeds.
But maybe the cops were just around the corner, when the crime went down... Or maybe they were in the donut shop on the other side of town.

More RANDOM in CONCORD response times, and having the CONCORD units fly further on patrols once they have avenged a victim would make for a lot more lively and exciting time in High Sec!

That is my opinion at the moment....
